Awakening is a song written in 2006 by my father John Berkman with lyrics by Gayle Webster. His songs have so much significance for me now as he's unable to play or compose music as he once did. But I am grateful that he left behind recordings of his work. I have similar recordings from the late 60's,songs sung by anonymous singers. It seemed to have been his formula. But in 2006 I could hear both the pinnacle of his potential as a composer and also the precursor to the unraveling of his mind. This recording is a ruff mix but also a glimpse of his genius at work.
